“The worst thing that can happen to us is to minimize a problem and miss an opportunity to radically solve it. Let's remember that the pandemic does not end by itself, we have to reduce it "says the medical epidemiologist Leonel Argüello
This February 15, the Ministry of Health, Minsa, through an informative note, in its weekly report from February 08 to 15, 2022, indicated “we have attended and given responsible and careful follow-up to 104 Nicaraguans with confirmed COVID-19”.
This government ministry, since the first cases of Covid-19 occurred in Nicaragua, has reported a single case of deceased people weekly, for February 8 to 15, the Minsa continues to present that same data, causing criticism at the national level, given that, on social networks, in the second contagious wave, social networks were flooded with obituaries for the death of people with symptoms associated with Covid-19.

The note includes that there were also deaths, this week of people who have been in follow-up, due to pulmonary thromboembolism, diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crises, and bacterial pneumonia.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic until today, we have attended and given Responsible and Careful Follow-up to 13,877 people,” says Minsa.

According to the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health, people who have been in Responsible and Careful Follow-up for COVID-19, “have often had associated conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, obesity, heart disease, immunodeficiency syndrome, chronic kidney failure, history of cerebrovascular accident, pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic pulmonary diseases”.
n
official data contrasts, with those reported weekly by the COVID-19 Citizen Observatory, a network of independent doctors that monitors the pandemic, this observatory says that there are “5,970 deaths from pneumonia” and other symptoms related to the new coronavirus, as well as “31,392 suspected cases of contagion” due to the pandemic.
n
With the emergence of the new Omicron variant that produces COVID-19, there is a lot of news that it is milder and that after this the pandemic would disappear. The World Health Organization (WHO) has made calls not to trust that this will be the case and they are correct.
Will the pandemic be over?

Dr. Leonel Argüello, an epidemiologist, states that we would all like to hear, that the pandemic no longer exists, but a reality exists, explains “The worst thing that can happen to us is to minimize a problem and miss an opportunity to radically solve it. Let us remember that the pandemic does not end by itself, we have to reduce it and bring it to control levels, a purpose that we can achieve if we adjust our human behavior to prevent more people from becoming infected.
n
As has been learned from this pandemic through health specialists, this is a disease that is passed from person to person and it is in our hands to prevent this from happening.

Avoiding crowds, gatherings of many people, to avoid contagion is essential, for prevention. “Of your responsible behavior, by avoiding attending these massive events, by taking preventive measures, such as the use of a mask, physical distancing, washing hands with soap and water for at least 40 seconds, and always looking for ventilated places. , is that we will be able to control this epidemic in our country,” Advises Argüello, the Nicaraguan doctor, who has maintained a constant campaign to raise awareness of this pandemic.
